To cash out a bet in South Africa, you accept a bookmaker’s offer to settle an open sports wager before its result is known. The offer can be above or below your original stake, and it can change or disappear. Some bookmakers also let you settle only part of a bet. Online sports betting is legal for adults using a South African bookmaker licensed by a provincial gambling authority. National Gambling Board (NGB) guidance.
What does bet cash out mean?
Cash out is an early settlement of a sports bet. Once the bookmaker accepts a full cash out, that bet is closed. Its final match result no longer changes the agreed amount credited to your betting account, subject to the operator’s error and settlement rules. If you leave the bet open, it is settled under the original selections and market rules instead. Betway’s cash out terms.
This distinction matters on a football multiple. You might have several winning legs and one match still to play. If the bookmaker offers cash out and you accept, you take the displayed amount now. You give up the chance of the original full return if the final leg wins, but you also avoid losing the whole bet if it does not.
Cash out is different from a withdrawal. Cash out settles a bet and credits your betting balance. Withdrawing moves eligible funds from that balance through the operator’s payment process, which may require identity or bank account checks. Betway’s withdrawal instructions and account terms show the separate steps.
How to cash out a bet in South Africa
Button names vary by bookmaker, but the steps are similar:
1. Sign in and open your bets. Look under “My Bets”, “Open Bets” or the equivalent account tab. At Betway, an eligible bet shows a cash out symbol in “My bets” or the betslip’s “My Bets” area. Betway’s cash out terms.
2. Open the unsettled bet. Check the selections, stake and potential return. A settled bet cannot be cashed out.
3. Look for the current offer. The displayed rand amount is what the operator is offering for a full cash out at that moment. It is neither your original potential payout nor necessarily a refund of your stake. Betway’s explanation.
4. Choose full or partial cash out, if available. A partial option should show what you receive immediately and what remains open. Check both figures before going further.
5. Review the confirmation screen. Compare the offer with your stake and the possible return if the bet wins. Read any revised offer carefully; at Betway, a changed amount requires a fresh confirmation. Betway’s cash out terms.
6. Confirm and check the record. Wait for the operator to acknowledge the transaction, then check your settled bets and account balance. If the request is rejected, inspect the bet’s status before trying again.
Do not assume tapping the button locks the first amount you saw. A goal, suspension or price move between the display and the operator’s acceptance can change or block the transaction.

How is the cash out amount set?
The quoted amount reflects the bookmaker’s current assessment of your bet, including prices for any selections still open. It moves as the event and betting market move. Betway states that its offer is based on current odds and can change before acceptance; it also says the amount will not exceed the betslip’s original potential return. Betway’s cash out explanation and terms.
To read an offer, compare three figures: stake (what you put in), cash out (what you can receive if accepted now) and potential return (what the original bet may pay if it wins). An offer above your stake locks in a net gain on that bet. An offer below your stake returns some money while confirming a net loss. The potential return is conditional; it is not money already in your account.
Match conditions and prices on other legs of a multiple can change the quote. There is no universal formula for predicting it.
What is partial cash out?
Partial cash out settles part of an open bet and leaves the rest running. You receive the accepted amount for the portion sold; the remaining portion still depends on the eventual result. Bet.co.za advertises both full and partial cash out on eligible pre-match and in-play singles and multiples. Availability is still subject to its terms and the individual bet. Bet.co.za’s cash out information.
On an eligible multiple, this lets you receive some money while keeping a reduced possible return on the remaining matches. If the open portion loses, the accepted partial cash out still stands, subject to correction rules.
Before confirming, read the operator’s display for the amount paid now, the share of the bet that remains and the revised possible return. Do not assume every bookmaker offers partial cash out or that every bet which qualifies for full cash out also qualifies for a partial one.

Cash out rules and restrictions to check
Eligible bets and promotions
Rules differ by operator, sport, market and bet type. Betway lists early cash out for eligible single and multi bets, but excludes free bets; its Build a Bet bets are also ineligible. Its terms say taking an early cash out forfeits its Win Boost on that betslip. These are Betway rules, not rules for every South African bookmaker. Betway’s cash out and promotion terms and Build a Bet rules.
If a promotion affects your decision, read its current terms. Also check how the operator treats void selections and abandoned fixtures.
Offer changes, suspensions and errors
An offer is available only while the bookmaker makes it available. Betway says it can suspend or withdraw offers, and that a frozen or closed market can block a request that was just submitted. It may void or recover a cash out affected by a technical pricing error or one accepted after the bet’s result was already determined. Betway’s cash out terms.
Treat the confirmation shown by the operator as decisive. A screenshot of an earlier quote helps explain a query, but it does not show that the bookmaker accepted that amount. Keep the bet reference, time, displayed offer and any confirmation message if something goes wrong.
Should you cash out or let the bet run?
There is no choice that guarantees the better result. Full cash out fixes the offered return and ends your exposure to the open bet. Letting it run preserves the chance of the original potential return, along with the chance of losing the stake. Partial cash out splits those outcomes, where offered.
Compare the offer with your stake and the possible return before the final score is known. An offer below your stake limits that bet’s loss at that point. An offer above your stake gives up any further return the original bet might have paid.
Cash out does not improve the odds of a selection winning. It is a settlement choice priced by the bookmaker. The operator can stop offering it, so placing a bet on the assumption that you will definitely be able to cash out later is risky. Betway’s cash out terms.

Why is the cash out button missing?
Start with the bet itself. It may already be settled, or its market or bet type may be excluded. A free bet or Build a Bet at Betway, for example, will not qualify. A live market may also be suspended during a significant incident or while prices are updated. The operator may simply have no offer for that event at the moment. Betway’s eligibility rules.
Check the correct open bet. If a request is pending, avoid repeated taps. For a disputed result, save the bet reference and confirmation, then ask support whether the request was accepted, rejected or corrected.
For an unresolved complaint about a licensed operator, the NGB advises contacting the provincial gambling board that issued the licence, then escalating to the NGB in writing if the provincial board cannot assist. The NGB also publishes a verified operators list. NGB complaints guidance.
Frequently asked questions
Can I cash out before kick-off?
Sometimes. Betway describes a possible pre-match cash out offer, but it does not guarantee one. Other bookmakers may apply different timing rules. Check the open bet and current operator terms rather than assuming a pre-match cancellation is available. Betway’s guide.
Can I undo a full cash out?
Once a valid full cash out is accepted, the original bet is settled and the later result does not reopen it. Operators may still correct an accepted transaction under their error rules. Check the confirmation before accepting, especially during live play. Betway’s terms.
